タオルを投げ入れる

これは、負けや敗北を認めて諦める、降参する、ギブアップする、

匙を投げる、という意味です。ボクシングの試合で負けを認めて

リングにタオルを投げ入れる動作が由来の表現です。

困難な状況や勝負から撤退する際に日常会話やビジネスシーンで

よく使われます。

例えば、

After months of trying to fix the car, I finally threw in 

the towel and bought a new one.

数ヶ月車を修理しようと試みたが、ついに諦めて新しい車を買った。

Don't throw in the towel yet! We can still win this game.

まだ諦めるな！まだこの試合には勝てる。

The company threw in the towel after failing to make a profit.

その会社は利益が出ず、撤退した。
